I drove the 2027 Mini Cooper Countryman for a week for USA TODAY Cars. It's the first Mini model I've tested this year.
The subcompact SUV's interior surprised me, and its driving verve impressed me. Here's what drivers and car buyers need to know about the Countryman after a week of testing.
What stands out about the 2027 Mini Cooper Countryman?
The Mini Cooper Countryman has one of the most unique infotainment screens in the industry. It uses a 9.4-inch circular touchscreen display. It also comes with a retractable Head-Up Display (HUD) that pops up when you start the vehicle. The interior tech features are fun and innovative.

The subcompact SUV is a blast to drive due to its unique design and driving modes. The S trim's Go-Kart Mode turns the SUV into a small performance vehicle with exhilarating
acceleration and handling. It has multiple driving profiles and comes loaded with tech features that you won't find in rivals.
Mini is owned by German automaker BMW, which has a clear influence on the SUV's powertrain and performance. Its British heritage and roots are also apparent in its unique design language and build.
Performance, handling and efficiency: How does it drive?

The Mini Cooper Countryman is zippy on the road and thrilling to drive. I didn't think it would be quick or powerful, but it exceeded my expectations.
The subcompact SUV uses a 2.0-liter, twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 241 horsepower. It handles well thanks to its small body. The Countryman achieves 24 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. Its real-world efficiency is understated.
Interior, tech and comfort: What's it like inside?

The cabin includes heated sport seats in front, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic moonroof. It also comes with ambient lighting, four USB-C ports and wireless smartphone pairing.
Will the Mini Cooper Countryman fit your lifestyle?
The 2027 Countryman seats five comfortably. The front row has 40.4 inches of legroom. Its rear seat has 37 inches of legroom.

The subcompact SUV has adequate cabin and cargo space for most small families. It is 175 inches long, 72.6 inches wide (without mirrors), and 65.2 inches tall. It has 25 cubic feet of cargo space.
Price, value and competitors: Is the 2027 Mini Countryman worth buying?
The 2027 Mini Cooper Countryman starts at $38,900. It comes in three trims.

2027 Mini Cooper Countryman trims
- Countryman S ALL4: $38,900
- Countryman JCW ALL4: $46,900
- SE ALL4: $45,200 (all-electric)
The Countryman provides solid value for the money considering 2026's rising new vehicle prices. It competes against rivals such as the Volvo XC40 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. While Volvo's subcompact SUV offers a smoother ride, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA is more refined, the Countryman has the highest power output and sharpest handling of the trio.
Final verdict: Who should buy the 2027 Mini Cooper Countryman?
If you're shopping in the subcompact SUV segment, the Mini Cooper Countryman may not be the first model you consider due to the popularity of rivals. After testing it, I encourage you to learn more about the Countryman's cabin and exclusive tech features.

If you're into quirky and sporty small SUVs, the 2027 Mini Countryman is worth strong consideration. Its raw power, precise handling and one-of-a-kind tech features separate it from competitors.
After driving the Mini Countryman for a week, I have a greater appreciation for the nameplate and the brand as a whole.
