Monaco did not include Folarin Balogun in its squad for the UEFA Conference League, which was released on Thursday, Sept. 3.
The move came just days after the collapse of the American striker's move to Everton, leaving questions about his health and future with Monaco.
Balogun experienced a wild transfer deadline day, as his proposed $52.3 million (€45m) transfer to the Premier League was on, then off, then on and finally off for good.
The collapse hinged on a medical exam at Everton that uncovered unspecified issues. Balogun and Monaco did not agree that there were any medical problems, though, according to Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro.
The two sides still managed to renegotiate a new deal prior to the transfer window closing. But at the last minute,
Balogun walked away from the transfer.
"Balogun’s allegation is that I’m not feeling well because of the way the club treated me," Scuro said at a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 2. "I’m not feeling well because Everton’s medical department raised doubts about my future or my health. I have nothing (no health problem), so I’m not comfortable signing a long contract here."
Balogun has not made the matchday roster for either of Monaco's opening two Ligue 1 games, and he was omitted again from the squad to face Paris Saint-Germain on Friday, Sept. 4.
The club did say that the 25-year-old has resumed group training.
It wasn't immediately clear why Monaco left Balogun off the team's roster for the Conference League, which will begin its league phase in October.
It might be a sign that Monaco would still like to sell Balogun in the coming days, a possibility Scuro hinted at this week.
However, the options for a potential transfer prior to the winter window are dwindling. Leagues in Turkey, Portugal and Saudi Arabia are among the few that still have open transfer windows.
