The first College Football Playoff rankings will soon be released.
Miami is expected to be the No. 1 overall seed and top-ranked team in the 12-team field when therankings are revealed at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday on ESPN. The Hurricanes, with their quarterback-wide receiver duo of Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney, take their undefeated 8-0 into Saturday's showdown with Notre Dame.
From there, Nos. 3 through 12 in the bracket could go in any direction from the committee.

How does the committee view Ohio State as a two-loss team with backup quarterback Luke Fahey? How about a two-loss Alabama team that was in a similar position last season before making the field as a three-loss team following a defeat
in the SEC title game?
All of that will soon be answered. Still, Tuesday's rankings are more conversation starters than anything else. The only rankings that truly matter arrive on Selection Sunday, Dec. 6. Until then, the committee's first unveiling will fuel a month of debate while offering insight into what teams need to accomplish, or avoid, down the stretch.
