Tennessee football will be without one of its key offensive pieces for the rest of the season.
Volunteers coach Josh Heupel announced during his game-week news conference on Monday, Sept. 14 that senior tight end Ethan Davis will miss the remainder of the 2026 college football season with an ACL injury.
"Ethan Davis (with) an ACL injury will be gone for the remainder of the year," Heupel said.
He added: "I hate it for Ethan because of the work that he put in and his growth as a person and the player, and now his season is cut short. But the next guy has got to be prepared and take advantage of the opportunity."
Davis, a former All-SEC Freshman Team selection in 2024
and a preseason John Mackey Award watch list selection this season, will end his 2026 campaign with three receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 25-yard touchdown in Tennessee's Week 2 win at Georgia Tech.
As noted by Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network, sophomore DaSaahn Brame and South Alabama transfer Trent Thomas are expected to see larger roles with Davis sidelined for the season.
The Vols moved to 2-0 on the season with their road win against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 12. Tennessee first-year quarterback Faizon Brandon completed 10-of-21 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, while DeSean Bishop ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Tennessee hosts Kennesaw State on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7:45 p.m. ET at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
