"Braxton Family Values" star Trina Braxton's husband, Von Scales, has died at the age of 58.
A representative for the singer, 51, confirmed the news in a statement to TMZ on Thursday, Oct. 1. An official cause of death has not been released.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton," the statement read. "The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”
USA TODAY reached out to Trina Braxton's representative for comment.
Braxton and Scales met through mutual friends and tied the knot in 2019. Their relationship – and the wedding – was documented on her family's reality shows, "Braxton Family Values" and "The
Braxtons."

"Von and I's relationship is so different from my past relationships," Braxton previously said on the show. "He just makes me feel real safe."
Cameras later featured Scales' proposal, during which he told her, "I love you with all that I have in a way I didn't think possible." In another episode, he praised Braxton for "all the things that you are."
"The businesswoman, the singer, the actress – all of that is great – but who you are inside and the kindness and understanding that you've shown to me, I want you to know that I really appreciate it," he added.
Braxton family experienced several deaths in recent years
Scales' death comes eight years after Braxton's ex-husband, Gabriel Solis, to whom she was married from 2003 until 2015, died at 43 following a battle with cancer. The television personality shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post at the time.
"On December 20, 2018, a chapter permanently closed for my sons and I," wrote Braxton, referring to her two sons, Eric and Caleb Mojica. "For over 16 years, Gabe Solis was an essential part of our lives. Like all families, there are good and bad moments that are endured, but those moments, good or bad still made us who we are in the present."
She also revealed the news had been leaked before she could contact all of Solis' loved ones and apologized to those who found out online.
"I do humbly ask for your prayers for our families, but my greatest request is that when you are posting comments, remember Gabe’s passing is a loss for our family," she continued. "He was a father to my boys, a son, brother, and friend to many and I would appreciate privacy and respect as we grieve his unexpected departure. @gabe_solis1234 I miss you, my dear friend."
One year later, Michael Braxton – who is one of Trina Braxton's five siblings, alongside Toni, 58; Towanda; 53; late sister Traci; and Tamar, 49 – lost his 24-year-old daughter. Trina Braxton paid tribute to her niece in an April 2019 social media post, writing, "God sent me another angel! Rest in Heaven Lauren 'LoLo' Braxton."
In 2022, the family suffered another loss when Traci Braxton died from Esophageal cancer at 50 years old.
Toni Braxton released a statement on behalf of all the Braxtons on Instagram on March 12, 2022, in which they mourned their sister's death.
"It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci. Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly," it said. "Traci passed this morning as the snow was falling, our angel is now a snowflake."
"We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life," the post concluded. "We are family forever. Love, The Braxton Family"
The sisters rose to fame in the '90s with their R&B group named The Braxtons and released their first single, "Good Life," in 1990. Toni Braxton went on to launch a solo career, while Towanda, Trina and Tamar Braxton formed their own girl group without her.
