President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a new record low, with less than one-third of Americans approving of the president’s job performance, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll, released on Oct. 19, found Trump’s approval rating at 31%, the lowest the president has seen in Reuters/Ipsos tracking
in either term, and a one-point dip from his previous career low recorded two weeks ago.The president’s sinking approval rating comes as early voting began in several states, with Republicans facing an uphill battle to maintain slim majorities in Congress.
Democrats are currently ahead of the GOP by 12 percentage points in a new generic congressional ballot, the widest lead the party has held in Reuters/Ipsos tracking this election
cycle.
The four-day Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,679 U.S. adults and has a 2-percentage-point margin of error.

Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad polls
Trump’s bad poll follows two other scathing surveys released on Oct. 18.
In a new Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll, Trump’s approval rating hit a record low for the pollster, reaching 33%. That was a 4-point dip from a July poll and an 8-point drop from one in October 2025.
The same poll found Democrats, for the first time in a decade, were more trusted to deal with the economy than Republicans.
In an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll released the same day, Trump’s approval rating fell to a second-term low of 34%, with 51% of respondents “strongly disapproving” of the president's job performance. Among Latino voters, who shifted toward Trump in 2024, the president's approval rating sat at 31%.
In another second-term record for the president, 71% said the country was on the “wrong track,” up 10 percentage points from another poll in April 2025.
The same poll also found Democrats were 10 percentage points ahead of the GOP in a generic congressional ballot.
Polling averages show a continuous slide
Including the three bad polls for the president in the last two days, broader polling averages also show Trump sliding into deeper negative territory.
As of Monday, Oct. 19, the RealClearPolitics average showed Trump with a 38.9% approval rating and a 59.3% disapproval rating. The New York Times polling average had Trump at 37% approval and 61% disapproval, while Nate Silver's Silver Bulletin average showed 37.5% approval and 59.9% disapproval.
