Matthew McConaughey might have to change his catchphrase to "Alrighty, Almighty."
The Oscar-winning actor met with Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday, Aug. 5, during a service at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, according to footage shared by The Associated Press. McConaughey, who attended the pope's weekly audience, was joined by his wife, Camila Alves.
In the video, McConaughey and Alves were greeted by Pope Leo as the pontiff made his way through the church to speak with attendees. The "Dallas Buyers Club" star, dressed in a navy-blue suit, warmly shook the pope's hand and patted him on the shoulder while McConaughey gave some brief remarks.
McConaughey has previously been candid about the role spirituality plays in his life.

In a 2020 interview with Relevant magazine, the actor shared a story about visiting the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, a monastic community in New Mexico, early in his career as he struggled to deal with "the excesses of fame." During his stay, he was introduced to a monk named Brother Christian.
"I confessed to him for four hours," McConaughey told the magazine. "I'm feeling like I'm at the bottom of the Earth. I'm bawling, and snot's coming out of my nose. What does he say? The only word he says to me after four hours of my confessions. He looks me in the eyes, and he goes: 'Me too.'"
McConaughey added that he was a firm "believer" in God, saying, "God's laying out the highways, but we each have our hand on the wheel."
"I look at Earth. I look at the little dot that we are on the planet," he continued. "The world's turning. And we're that little individual on the planet. That smallness can make you go, 'Oh my gosh. I'm nothing. None of what I do matters.' But a place of humility is actually when you realize, 'Oh, it all matters.' There's a great empowerment that comes with that."
The "Dazed and Confused" alum also opened up about the importance of faith in an interview with USA TODAY last September for his book "Poems & Prayers," which contains McConaughey's proverbs, lyrical prose and assorted "ditties" on life's deeper themes.
"I'm peddling belief," McConaughey said. "I think we're in short supply of it. And whether that's belief in God, belief in yourself, belief in your kid's future, whatever that may be, we can use more of it."
