Jamie Foxx has long credited his family with helping him survive a life-threatening stroke, a view shared by members of his medical team.
The Oscar-winning actor teared up on the Aug. 25 episode of the "Baby, this is Keke Palmer" podcast while recalling how his daughter, Corinne Foxx, 32, stepped up to handle the medical emergency he experienced
in 2023 following a brain bleed that caused a stroke, which led to him becoming comatose.The "Ray" star told Palmer that he visited the Atlanta hospital where he was treated to speak with his medical team and learn what happened during the 20 days that he was unconscious.
"Man, your daughter saved your life," Jamie Foxx recalled his doctor telling him. "He talked about Corinne. 'She saved you.' He said,
'She’s the reason that you’re here.'"
The doctor asserted that "without her you wouldn’t be here," Jamie Foxx shared. "The doctor was like, 'No one handles it likes this. Because [while] you were on the slab; TMZ, all these [media outlets], she handled it."
Corinne Foxx admitted: "That was a part that I was not prepared for."
"As soon as he went dark, it was scary the places the internet went with the cloning [theories], the conspiracies," she said. "But it also was not my place to ever release his medical information. I had never really experienced that before, and that was the toughest part was trying to manage that."
On April 12, 2023, Corinne Foxx took to Instagram to reveal that her father had "experienced a medical complication" the day prior. The family did not share further details until a month later, when she wrote on Instagram that Jamie Foxx had been "out of the hospital for weeks" and was recovering at home.

Corinne Foxx, who cohosts "Beat Shazam" with her father, explained, "When you're in it, you don't have time to be scared."
"You're in caretaking mode, and you're never really ready to take care of your parent," she continued. "You're never ready for that moment, but when it happened, I was like, 'I've got this.' I was so laser-focused in taking care of him and protecting him and making sure that he was going to get to the other side."
Jamie Foxx also recalled feeling like God was telling him, "This is your time."
"I was talking to Him; I said, 'Bro, what are you talking about? This is me, bro. I put the smiles on people's faces. Why me? Look at all these bad people out here,'" the actor shared. "He says, 'All these bad people belong to somebody else.'"
The "Django Unchained" actor has previously opened up about how his younger daughter, 17-year-old Anelise Bishop, aided his recovery.
"When I was fighting for my life in there ... they said, 'We're going to lose him because his vitals are bad.' And I didn't want my 14-year-old to see me like that," he said during his Ultimate Icon Award acceptance speech at the 2025 BET Awards. "But Anelise overheard the conversation, and she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, 'I know what my Daddy needs.'"
Jamie Foxx recounted: "And as she played the guitar, my vitals [improved]. And I realized God was in her guitar. The nurses ran in and said, 'What did they give him?' My daughter said, 'Shh, I've got him.'"
