San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini was a late scratch Monday, Oct. 5 because of a lower-body injury.
Celerbrini took part in warmups before the game against the Dallas Stars, but the team announced before puck drop that he wouldn't be playing. Alex Wennberg took his spot on the top line.
The Sharks fell 5-0 to the Stars, their first loss of the season. They had won their first two games with Celebrini picking up five assists.
Celebrini broke Joe Thornton's team single-season scoring record last season with 115 points. He received an eight-year extension in the offseason that made him, at the time, the NHL's highest-paid player with an $18.8 million cap hit.
The Sharks also named Celebrini, 20, the youngest captain in franchise story.

Sharks coach
Ryan Warsofsky didn't have an update on Celebrini after the game.
"We will evaluate tonight and tomorrow and see where he's at," Warsofky said, per the Bay Area News Group. "He's still being evaluated. He's in the building, so he's with the team."
