Drivers who own large and inefficient SUVs and vehicles that run on diesel are feeling the most pain at the pump. Some diesel trucks have large gas tanks, causing drivers to pay hefty refueling costs, especially as diesel prices surge.

With California diesel averaging $8.34 per gallon, a fill-up for a Ford F-250 can cost more than $280, according to AAA.com.

So, why are gas and diesel prices so high and is there any end in sight for drivers?
Is it time to consider a hybrid or electric vehicle?
Jumping from an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle to a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) may be too extreme for some drivers, but hybrid vehicles provide a safe middle ground. Cars, trucks and SUVs with hybrid powertrains rely on internal combustion engines, batteries and electric motors to transfer power to wheels for motion.
Hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Camry and Honda CR-V Hybrid are shining during the ongoing spike in gas prices because they are significantly more fuel-efficient than many gasoline-powered vehicles. Hybrids are able to travel for further distances by using energy generated from electric motors and stored in batteries, allowing them to conserve precious (and expensive) fuel.
Many new car buyers are considering hybrid and electric vehicles to combat high refueling costs. Hybrids can save drivers hundreds of dollars a year over long periods of ownership.
