The St. Louis Cardinals officially named Rob Cerfolio the new general manager on Friday, Nov. 6, a promotion for the 34-year-old who has been an assistant GM in the organization since 2024 under president Chaim Bloom.
Cerfolio previously worked in Cleveland's front office from 2015-2024, rising to the organization's director of player development.
“Since joining the Cardinals two years ago, Cerf has spearheaded tremendous progress in our player development efforts from top to bottom, and in the advancement of our performance group and its integration within our entire organization,” said Bloom in a statement.
"He is relentless in his desire to move us forward, and is invested in relationships with both new hires and longtime staff alike. I’m excited
to partner with him in his new role as we work to set the standard for the industry in every area of baseball operations.”
St. Louis missed the playoffs for the fourth season in a row but the team had a major youth movement in 2026 led by rookie infielder JJ Wetherholt and outfielder Jordan Walker.
