The Philadelphia Eagles fell to 2-2 following their 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week but did so without some of their top contributors on offense.
Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith missed the game after suffering a hamstring injury ahead of Week 4.
You may notice he won't be out there again this Sunday when the Eagles take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Smith was quickly earning the booking as the No. 1 target for Philadelphia, and the playmaker Jalen Hurts could rely on. Smith had 235 receiving yards before his injury, the team-high. His absence is a significant blow to the Eagles' offense.
Like many teams around the NFL, Philadelphia is dealing with many injuries across its roster. Saquon Barkley is set to miss Week 5 with a hamstring
injury. Smith's status remains one of the more important ones to monitor.
Here's the latest on the Eagles star wide receiver:
When will DeVonta Smith return?
Smith has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 27-year-old did not practice in any capacity all week and was listed as a non-participant due to the hamstring injury. Smith worked on a sideline field with a trainer.
Smith was off to a flying start in 2026, hauling in 19 of his 27 targets for 235 yards and a touchdown through three games. When healthy, Smith is the clear-cut No. 1 option in the passing game, and his absence leaves the Eagles’ aerial attack looking a little more grounded. Hurts and the offense struggled immensely without him in Week 4.
As for when Smith might return, that remains a bit of a mystery. He’s reportedly week-to-week, though the initial outlook suggested a multi-week absence. This will be his second missed game, and the team hasn't placed him on injured reserve, which would require missing at least four games.
A home date with the Carolina Panthers is on deck in Week 6 and is the earliest possible return. If not, Smith will likely make a push to return for the Eagles' home matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.
Eagles WR depth chart
Here's a look at who the Eagles will have with Smith out of the lineup again on Sunday:
- Makai Lemon
- Dontayvion Wicks
- Darius Cooper
- Elijah Moore
- Britain Covey
- Hollywood Brown (injured)
- Johnny Wilson (injured)
Lemon – the 20th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft – has yet to emerge as Philadelphia's No. 2 receiver. The USC product is undersized at 5-11, 192 pounds, but he has strong route-running skills and great hands that should make him a quality slot threat at the professional level. Meanwhile, veteran Dontayvion Wicks has paced the group in snaps and routes.
Tight end Dallas Goedert is set to return for Philadelphia in Week 5.
