Commuters using the L in Philadelphia may need to find a new stop soon, as SEPTA plans to close the L's 11th St. Station and Concourse for almost a year.
According to plans from the transit authority, the closure, which will begin Sept. 5, is to make the station fully accessible.
Over 9,400 passengers go through the 11th Street Station to ride the L each weekday, SEPTA said, highlighting the importance of accessibility.
The $44 million construction will include new elevators, lighting, flooring, wayfinding signage, upgrades to communications systems and much more.
When will SEPTA 11th Street Station reopen?
The station will be closed to passengers from Sept. 5, 2026, through Aug. 30, 2027.
The 11th and 13th Street stretch of the concourse will also be closed throughout the project.
After the
station's 2027 reopening, remaining work is expected to last through June 2028, though SEPTA says it should not disrupt passengers.
Where to enter, exit the L when 11th Street Station closes
During the closure, SEPTA said passengers can enter and exit the L through the 8th and Market or 13th Street stations.
