Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, is in stable condition, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on July 27.Mia Bieniemy was shot at the couple's home in Virginia on July 26, and her and Eric Bieniemy's son has been arrested.
The Loudoun County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded on Sunday evening to reports of a shooting in Ashburn. An adult woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was transported to a local hospital.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling. He is being held without bond at a local detention center.
"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts
and prayers are with them," Reid told reporters Monday. "Mia is stable, which is a plus. We all love EB, and you hate seeing those things happen."
Eric Bieniemy left the team's training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, Reid confirmed. There is no timetable for his return to the team.
"We'll just see how things go," Reid said. "Real life, you take care of that. She's a saint, one of God's good blessings. But things happen."
Eric Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs in January for his second stint on the organization's coaching staff. He previously served as offensive coordinator from 2018-22, helping lead the team to two Super Bowl titles during that span.
