It took until the fifth Premier League match of the season – and it was ultimately futile – but Tottenham Hotspur finally scored a goal, with Conor Gallagher finding the back of the net against Aston Villa on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Gallagher's 86th-minute goal came with Tottenham trailing 3-0 and then Jan Paul van Hecke scored in the 98th minute, but Tottenham didn't have enough time to find an equalizer in a 3-2 defeat in North London.
The team had gone 493 minutes in the Premier League without scoring, dating back to the first half of last season's finale.
It marks another horrible result for the that has now taken just two points of a possible 15 with no wins, two draws and three losses in the young season. Spurs finished 17th and narrowly avoided
relegation last year and then shelled out more than $400 million over the summer to rebuild for manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Tottenham lost its first two Premier League games – 3-0 at Brentford and 2-0 vs. Newcastle – before being held to scoreless draws against Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool this week, Tottenham won't play again until the Premier League returns to action on Oct. 10 following the international break.
