For the Overton (NE) Eagles, the 2026 high school football season has been a year to forget. After six games, they can officially put 2026 behind them.
Sitting at 0-6 on the year, the Eagles put out a statement on X saying that they were canceling the rest of the season due to injuries. The Eagles only played four games on the field and had forfeited two due to injury concerns.
In the games they played, Overton had been outscored 209-34. Last week they lost to Axtell (NE) 38-6.
"Due to recent injuries, Overton High School has made the difficult decision to forfeit the remaining football games of the 2026 season," the statement from the school reads. :We would like to thank our players and coaches for their dedication, effort, and commitment throughout
the season. We appreciate their determination to compete and play as many games as possible despite the challenges faced.
"We apologize to our remaining opponents for any inconvenience this decision may cause and appreciate their understanding. We also thank our families, fans, and community for their continued support of Overton Eagle Football."

Their remaining games included a road trip to Blue Hill (NE), a home against Southern Valley (NE) on Oct. 16 and they were set to close out the year on the road at Pleasanton (NE) on Oct. 23.
With the season now officially over, the Eagles have their first losing season since 2023. That year they finished 4-5 and before that went 1-7.
They'll look to bounce back from this current run of bad results like they did during the 2022 and 2023 stretch. In 2024, the Eagles went 9-2 and last season they also posted a winning record at 6-4.
