A man was fatally shot at a Midtown Manhattan subway station Saturday afternoon, and police were searching for the gunman, who fled the scene, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 12:21 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Seventh Avenue station near West 53rd Street, according to the New York Police Department. The station serves the B, D and E subway lines.
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was believed to be in his 30s, police said. He was shot in the chest and taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The shooting followed a dispute between two men that escalated into gunfire, according to reports from CBS News and The New York Times. Police had not announced any arrests as of Saturday afternoon. USA

Police search for suspect after shooting
The NYPD released surveillance photos of a person wanted in connection with the shooting. The individual was last seen wearing red pants or a red tracksuit, a black vest and a black face mask, according to police.
The suspect fled on foot, heading north on Seventh Avenue, the NYPD said.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the victim and the suspect knew each other. The circumstances leading to the dispute also remain unclear.

Subway service disrupted after shooting
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority was working with police to retrieve surveillance footage from cameras on the platform and train cars, CBS News reported.
The shooting disrupted subway service, with C, D and E trains bypassing the Seventh Avenue station in both directions. E trains were also rerouted along part of the F line, and the MTA reported delays on the A, C, D, E and F lines.
MTA Chief of Security Michael Kemper condemned gun violence in the transit system and said those responsible should face the maximum consequences under the justice system, according to CBS News.
The investigation was ongoing Saturday afternoon.
