CONCORD, NC — NASCAR is will have a doubleheader at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 11.
The second-tier O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday night due to rain in the area from Hurricane Isaias.
Practice and qualifying for the Cup Series has been canceled, but Sunday's race, the Bank of America 400, is still on as scheduled. The sixth race in the postseason Chase, the green flag should drop at 3:19 p.m. ET with coverage on USA Network. Per NASCAR's metric, points leader Kyle Larson will start on the pole alongside last weekend's winner, Chase Briscoe, on the front row.
The O'Reilly Series race will follow the Cup race and is now scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday with coverage on the CW.
For the
O'Reilly Series, the Chase is nine races and the competition at Charlotte Motor Speedway – the Blue Cross NC 300 – is the fifth race of the postseason. The point standings for the championship in the second-tier NASCAR series is tight, with leader Sheldon Creed having a 19-point edge over Carson Kvapil of JR Motorsports. Four other drivers – Cup Series-bound Jesse Love, regular season champion Justin Allgaier, Corey Day and Sam Mayer – are all within 52 points of Creed.
The O'Reilly Series has not had a Sunday night race since the 2021 Cook Out 250 at Martinsville Speedway, which was also postponed from its original date due to rain.
It's the second consecutive race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway that has experienced a myriad of weather issues. In May, during the Coca-Cola 600 weekend, the Truck Series race was postponed multiple times before running on Sunday morning in a shortened format due to television time constraints. The O'Reilly Series race and the Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 were both called early due to rain. Layne Riggs won the Truck Series race, Ross Chastain took the checkered flag in the O'Reilly race, and Daniel Suarez was crowned the winner of the Coca-Cola 600.
On Sunday, the National Weather Service projects showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m., then a slight chance of showers through 3 p.m., with wind gusts as high as 25 miles-per-hour. Sunday night should be mostly clear, with a low temperature around 60 degrees.
