New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown suffered an apparent injury in his team debut against the Seattle
Seahawks.
The Patriots' marquee offseason acquisition was injured after trying to make a catch in the second half of New England's Week 1 game. Brown was rolled up by the Seattle defender as he went to the ground and remained down on the field after the play.
Brown received medical attention on the field before walking toward the sideline under his own power. He later went to the blue medical tent before walking to the locker room wearing just one cleat.
A.J. Brown injury update
The Patriots announced Brown was questionable to return to Wednesday's game because of an ankle injury.
Brown had recorded three catches for 26 yards before exiting the game. He also drew a key, 34-yard pass interference penalty that set up New England's first touchdown.
Patriots WR depth chart
The Patriots have five wide receivers active for Wednesday's game. Here's the pecking order within the unit.
- A.J. Brown
- Romeo Doubs
- Demario Douglas
- Mack Hollins
- Kyle Williams
If Brown can't return to Wednesday's game, Doubs would step into the Patriots' No. 1 receiver role while Hollins, a 10-year veteran, would likely see the largest increase in snaps.
The Patriots could also opt to use multiple tight end sets more frequently. Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon would be in line for additional snaps if that ends up being the case.
