I am testing dozens of cars for USA TODAY Cars in 2026. Automakers are already rolling out 2027 model years as the year comes to a close.
Some 2027 model years feature mild updates while others are complete redesigns. As automakers finalize their upcoming lineups, these are the five 2027 models that immediately went to the top of my personal test-drive wish list, and why you should be watching them, too.
The 2027 Kia K5 is a value-oriented midsize car
Kia's K5 is an affordable midsize sedan that offers enough space for small families. It starts at just $27,690 and is incredibly well-balanced. I'm excited to drive the new K5 because I found the K4 Hatchback to be a great deal for the money after testing it for a week.
This year I drove the 2026 Toyota Camry, and I believe the new K5 is a worthy
adversary for Toyota's popular midsize sedan after driving the smaller K4.
Kia's K5 is one of many sedans proving that families don't have to choose larger and more expensive new SUVs if they need a practical daily driver.
The 2027 Honda HR-V is a true Civic alternative
Honda's HR-V is built on the 11th-generation Honda Civic platform. It has the driving dynamics of a sedan and still offers the utility of a larger SUV model. The Civic is known for its engaging driving dynamics and shares DNA with the HR-V, making it a top choice for driving enthusiasts like myself.
I'm excited for the new HR-V because it's larger than the Honda Civic I own, but still affordable and engaging to drive.
Honda's new subcompact SUV starts at $26,600. Key highlights for the 2027 model year include a standard 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless device charging.
Chevy's 2027 Corvette features a new engine
Chevrolet is making a major change to the Corvette for the 2027 model year. The iconic sports car comes with a new standard powertrain. Chevy is doubling down on the V8 as many competitors opt for smaller engines and hybrid systems. I'm excited about the new Corvette's raw power and sharp handling.
The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette uses a 6.7-liter V8 engine to produce 535 horsepower. It stands out to me as an absolute powerhouse that remains attainable for average drivers.
Chevy's new Corvette starts at $73,495. It's one of the most affordable V8 high-performance cars on the market and one of the last new American sports cars to feature a V8.
The 2027 Kia Seltos is bigger and better
Kia's Seltos subcompact SUV is completely redesigned for the 2027 model year. The Seltos has more cabin and cargo space. Its previous generation had a cramped second row, so the redesign solves that issue adding more passenger legroom. Its exterior and interior also got major upgrades for the 2027 model.
I'm excited to drive the Seltos because I tested several new competitive subcompact SUVs this year like the 2026 Hyundai Kona. Its bold new redesign reinvigorates the nameplate in my eyes and gives it a chance to stand out in its segment.
The new Seltos also reminds me of the 2027 Kia Telluride, one of my personal favorite cars of the year. Kia's 2027 Seltos starts at $24,990.
The 2027 BMW 4 Series Coupe is a sporty daily driver
The 2027 BMW 4 Series coupe is a stylish and powerful sports car. I'm excited to see how the new 4 Series Coupe performs during real-world driving.
I've tested several sports cars this year including the luxurious Genesis G80. I want to drive the new 4 Series to see how the German luxury model's performance and interior compares so the impressive Genesis models I've tested this year.
The new 4 Series is built for driving enthusiasts who enjoy precise handling and exhilarating acceleration.
Even though we're still in 2026, there are plenty of 2027 cars, trucks and SUVs to get excited about.
