For the first two full months of the 2026 season, the college football hierarchy has been determined by the major national polls, with teams jockeying for position in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25.
Now, as the season heads into November, a different kind of ranking will come into focus.
Entering Week 10, the College Football Playoff selection committee will unveil its top 25 teams for the first time this season on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The rankings will offer an early look at how the committee views the squads vying for the 12 spots in a field from which a national champion will be crowned.
It should have plenty of intrigue. The three remaining undefeated teams in the FBS
— No. 1 Miami, No. 4 Utah and No. 5 UCLA — will undoubtedly be among the 12 inclusions in the initial rankings, along with notable one-loss teams such as Georgia, Indiana, Notre Dame, Kentucky and BYU.
Beyond that, things get interesting. Where will traditional juggernauts with two losses such as Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and LSU find themselves? What about lower-ranked teams with one loss, like Wake Forest and Texas Tech? And what team from outside the Power Four conferences, like Boise State or New Mexico, will have the highest ranking, putting it in line for an automatic bid to the playoff?
Here's what to know about the CFP rankings in Week 10, and when additional ones will be released in the lead-up to the final 12-team bracket being unveiled in December:
