Pittsburgh's annual Oktoberfest celebration has officially kicked off with German-inspired food, drinks and entertainment in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh through Oct. 11.
The event takes over Market Square and the Roberto Clemente Bridge, and organizers are promoting the festival as "Prostburgh," with attractions ranging from traditional Bavarian fare and seasonal beer to family-friendly activities throughout the 11-day run.
The Clemente bridge has festival games lining the streets as well as food and beverage stands. When you make it to the end of the bridge, you'll be greeted by a 60-foot Ferris wheel that overlooks the entire city skyline.
Visitors can enjoy bratwurst and other German-style food, sample seasonal brews in the biergarten and listen
to live polka music. The festival also features dachshund races, stein-holding contests, axe throwing and the Devil's Wheel attraction.
Food, games and family activities planned
In addition to food and beverage offerings, attendees can take part in games and competitions while families can enjoy activities designed for a range of ages.
