Josue De Paula made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers as the defending champions earned a 6-2 victory against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park on Friday, Sept. 11.
He will serve as the designated hitter for the Dodgers for this weekend series, filling in for two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Those are big shoes for the organization's top prospect to fill.
The move to call up De Paula from the minor leagues was made official before Friday’s game, after Ohtani was placed on the injured list due to right biceps inflammation.
De Paula, at 21 years and 110 days old, batted seventh in the lineup and became the youngest Dodgers player since Alex Verdugo on Sept. 2, 2017.
He also became the first Dodgers position player called up from the AA
level while totally skipping AAA since Steve Sax in 1981.

De Paula went 0-for-3 with a walk in his debut against the Marlins on Friday.
In the minor leagues, he went 152-for-501 with 27 home runs, 106 runs and 104 RBI with the Tulsa Drillers this year.
