Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons has not returned from the knee injury that cost him the end of last season and the start of the 2026 campaign.
His podcast, disseminated via Bleacher Report, is in full swing, however. And the current episode dives into the Washington Commanders' clock-management debacle at the end of overtime that led to a 27-27 tie against the New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 11, when quarterback Jayden Daniels took a sack as the finals ticked off the clock and Washington could not attempt a game-winning field goal.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn fumed on the sidelines in the aftermath and his disgust continued 24 hours later during his day-after news conference.
Parsons, who was coached by Quinn for three seasons with
the Dallas Cowboys, stood up for his former coach and derided Daniels.
"Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job, to be honest with you," Parsons said on his show, "The Edge." " ... And I'm a big Jayden Daniels fan. But the reality is, like, he probably cost a lot of people their jobs."
Parsons' co-host asked him how much the coaching staff is to blame.
"All respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations. Like, I'm a defensive player, and this (expletive) is programmed into me. I even know what to do in those situations," Parsons said. "There's no way I'm taking a sack with 14 seconds left and no timeouts.
"It would be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year ... you've been to the NFC championship game, you've been in big moments before."
Parsons said it was Daniels' job to be prepared and understand these end-of-game situations. He said he would have liked Daniels to display more accountability during his post-game news conference, when the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year said "we gotta relay that as a offense, it starts from everybody, top down. Ultimately, it's on me."
"That's inexcusable, bro," Parsons said. "The lack of urgency – I would have had to say something to him in the locker room.
"There's no way that they didn't say 'Hey, this is the situation here.'"
Every day, Parsons said, teams discuss situations such as the one the Commanders experienced.
"We got all these situations every single week, so there's no way you don't know these situations. We even go through mock games, where we walk through these situations," Parsons said. "To me, like, this is a lack of preparation, a lack of mentality and a lack of urgency by the man on campus. And that just can't happen."
Quinn said he's had normal conversations with Commanders principal owner Josh Harris when asked about concerns regarding his job security.
The Commanders' next game is Oct. 19 on the road for "Monday Night Football" against the San Francisco 49ers.
