Small cars are some of the most affordable models on the market, but tall drivers often require larger vehicles for daily driving comfort. Luckily for buyers who are above average height, there are plenty of truck and SUV options that offer plenty of headroom and front legroom.
I've tested dozens of new cars in 2026 for USA TODAY cars and reviewed several models that have exceptionally roomy cabins. Here are the most comfortable SUVs and trucks I've tested for tall drivers in 2026.
The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder has plenty of headroom and legroom
Nissan's Pathfinder is a midsize three-row SUV designed for drivers with families or those who travel regularly with large groups of passengers. I was surprised by how comfy the Pathfinder's front seat was for a mainstream model with a relatively affordable price tag.
The 2026 Pathfinder has 42.3 inches of front headroom (without the panoramic moonroof). Its headroom is above average for its segment, and it has 44.3 inches of front legroom. I drove the Pathfinder from New Jersey to Philadelphia in stop-and-go traffic and found the midsize family SUV to be an excellent road trip vehicle because of its generous cabin space.
Furthermore, my passengers also commented on the cabin comfort of the Pathfinder and even inquired about its MSRP. The 2026 Pathfinder starts at $39,990.
GMC's Sierra 1500 is roomy and luxurious
I've tested many popular trucks in my career and the GMC Sierra 1500 stands out as one of the most comfortable half-ton models I've ever driven. The Sierra 1500 has an upscale interior and a smooth ride for a pickup.
It has 43.11 inches of front headroom and 44.53 inches of front legroom. The American pickup is a solid option for tall drivers because it has a spacious cabin and premium interior design. I drove it from New Jersey to Pennsylvania on a camping trip and was impressed by its comfort.
I tested the Denali Ultimate trim, but more affordable trims also offer plenty of value. The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $38,300.
The 2026 GMC Yukon is the most comfortable SUV I've tested this year
When it comes to cabin comfort, the Yukon stands out from every other SUV I've tested in 2026. Its Denali Ultimate trim features an incredible blend of high-quality seating materials, soft-touch surfaces, physical buttons and cabin space.
The Yukon has 42.3 inches of front headroom (without the sunroof) and a whopping 44.5 inches of front legroom. Its interior is cavernous.
The SUV was so comfortable that I didn't want to leave its heated seats and heated steering wheel to brave the cold in the winter. GMC's full-size SUV is a great choice for tall drivers with large families who want abundant cabin and cargo space.
GMC's Yukon starts at $69,600. It may be pricey, but it offers a level of comfort few rivals can compete with.
