Countless municipalities − and even one state − have declared Friday, Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day.
On Sept. 20, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that establishes Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton
Day. The day, 9-25, honors the late musician's popular single, "9 to 5." The "Queen of Country" died at the age of 80 on Aug. 25 after a brief battle of cancer.
"We could all afford to live a little more like Dolly. Be kind, be humble and have some fun … Be a diamond in a rhinestone world," Newsom said in a news release. "With this bill, we are not just establishing a day to celebrate Dolly Parton, we are creating an annual reminder to us, every year, to live the way she did − joyfully, graciously and with a whole lot of heart."
What other cities are celebrating Dolly Parton Day?
To no surprise, Nashville has also deemed Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day, according to the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. Nashville residents and visitors are encouraged to "wear pink, spread kindness and enjoy '9 to 5' at 5 p.m." local time. The Nashville Visitor Information Centers will be giving away free buttons, stickers and bookmarks throughout the day and fireworks will conclude the celebrations at 9:25 p.m. local time.
On Sept. 25, country musicians Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are also celebrating Parton with "Dolly Day" at their Nashville-based bar and restaurant, Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk. All proceeds from the establishment on Sept. 25 will be donated to Imagination Library, a free book gifting program for children the late musician founded in 1995.
