Time to step back into "A Different World."
Just one week after the Netflix revival series made its debut, the streamer announced on Oct. 2 that the show has been renewed for a second season.
In Season 2, the Hillman students will return for their sophomore year prepared to face "past decisions, uncertain futures, new loves and friendships, and deeper questions of purpose… all while, of course, getting themselves into a whole lot of new mess," a logline from Netflix reads.

The 2026 revival followed Hillman freshman Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon) as she navigated a heavy workload, reconnected with old flame Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV) and weighed the pressure of her parents' legacy at the university. She's the youngest daughter of Hillman royalty:
the high-maintenance Whitley Gilbert Wayne (Jasmine Guy) and math whiz turned university leader Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), who first starred on NBC's "A Different World" in the late 80s and early 90s.
Debbie Allen directed 83 episodes of the original series, and returned for the revival to serve as an executive producer and director. Following the renewal news, she celebrated the show's success and appeal.
“YAY! HALLELUJAH!," Allen said to Tudum. "The people and NETFLIX have spoken. A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and HEART!"
NBC's "A Different World," ran for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. "The Cosby Show" spinoff followed Lisa Bonet's Denise Huxtable in its first season, but had a larger focus on Guy's Whitley and Hardison's Dwayne in subsequent seasons after Bonet's exit and pregnancy with then-husband Lenny Kravitz.
The comfort watch helped bolster enrollment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and also addressed social and political issues affecting Black communities. The 2026 revival has done the same with a Gen Z twist. The fictional HBCU and its students face funding cuts, security threats and an unfair criminal justice system.
"It's so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience," Felicia Pride, the showrunner and executive producer, said to Tudum. "We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations. I am thrilled for our brilliant cast and our hard-working crew."

The first season brought back Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Cree Summer as university professor Freddie Brooks, Jada Pinkett Smith as a congresswoman, among others. It also welcomed new Hillman students like Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai), Amir Rodale (Jordan Aaron Hall), Hazel Henry (Kennedi Reece), and Kojo Achebe (Chibuikem Uche).
The announcement did not detail what original cast members will return for Season 2 or when the new season will release.
However, the Season 1 finale left some unanswered questions (spoilers ahead!) including, where does Deborah's love life stand, will Dwayne Wayne become the next Hillman president and will Denise Huxtable make a grand return? That's up to fans to theorize.
