While dragging my feet through the mud at the Austin City Limits music festival two weeks ago, I could only think: Thank God I wore my Blundstones.

Looking around at the festival of nearly 70,000 people, I noticed the different footwear that everyone was wearing to help them survive the muddy trenches we had to spend the whole weekend in. Since then, I’ve made a list of the best boots to wear this fall, so I know exactly what shoes to have on hand the next time I get stuck in a similar muddy situation.
Every fall I add a few more pairs of shoes to my wardrobe, but this fall I’m adding rain boots, western boots, and the iconic Frye boots to my closet. If you’re looking for the best boots to wear this fall which can be worn to a festival, tailgate,
or on a night out, I’ve got you covered. Below are the boots I will be adding to my collection this year, and you should, too.
The fall boots that can actually survive mud, rain and long days on your feet
Blundstone Classic Chelsea Boots
I was first introduced to Blundstone when hiking the Acatenango volcano last year in Guatemala. My friend did the whole two day hike in these boots, which quickly convinced me that I needed them. However, it wasn’t until I visited Australia that I finally made the purchase. The boots, first created in Tasmania, were able to withstand three days of mud, rain, and floods without letting any water inside. I highly recommend these shoes if you’re looking for great outdoor shoes.

Hunter Play Short Rain boots
After Blundstone Chelsea boots, the Hunter PLAY Short Rain boots stole the show at the ACL music festival. Hunter has long been known for its original tall boots, but this fall it’s all about the short boots. I’m loving the red and yellow colors, which are a perfect way to add just a pop of color to your fall outfit.

Lane Boots Joy Boot
A tailgating essential for me is typically a pair of western boots, and this year I’ll be wearing the Lane Boots x Rombauer Vineyards Joy Boots. This iconic collaboration between the Napa-based vineyard and western boot brand is something I never knew I needed. The Joy Boots are “chardonnay drenched” and fall right below your knee. While I wouldn’t recommend wearing these boots to a muddy festival, they’re great for a night out or a nice weather tailgate.

Frye and Co Miranda Boots
I’ve been wanting to try Frye and Co’s boots for years now, and this year I finally got to. I can confidently confirm: they are worth the hype. The boots are so sleek, come in medium and wide calf which I absolutely need, and pair well with every outfit. I’ve been wearing them with my long dress, skirts, jeans, and shorts.
