YouTuber and podcaster Ethan Klein's wife has accused him of a monthslong affair.
Hila Klein, one half of the YouTube channel H3h3Productions with her husband, shared a lengthy statement on Instagram early Friday, Oct. 23.
"I am living in a nightmare I can't wake up from. My husband has been having an affair," Hila Klein, 38, wrote. "I have been fed lie after lie after lie for months. I am tired of lies. Here is the truth."
The comments come hours after Ethan Klein, 41, announced the couple's H3 Podcast would go on an "indefinite hiatus" and thanked fans for their patience without further explanation.
"I could sense something was wrong," Hila Klein continued. "I tried to ask him questions and share my concerns and hurt feelings. But I was met with
dismissive answers and no action. Things that bothered me continued to bother me, and he did nothing about it. So I trusted him. Because I loved him."
Hila Klein said her husband's denials made her question her instincts and sanity.
"Eventually, he was caught in a lie, and I knew I was done. But the lies continued. 'It was just a kiss' became 'it was emotional cheating,'" she added. "After I dragged these lies from him, he finally admitted he'd been in an affair for over 6 months, the extent of which I'm sure I still don't know."
USA TODAY has reached out to Klein for comment.
The Kleins met in 2007, after Ethan Klein visited Israel during a Birthright Israel trip, while Hila Klein was serving in the Israel Defense Forces. They started their successful comedy and satire YouTube channel together in 2011. They married in 2012 and have three young sons: Theodore, 7, Bruce, 4, and Sunny, 2.
"The betrayal I feel is immeasurable," Hila Klein said. "The person I loved and trusted for 20 years evaporated overnight. He was my safe place, my partner in marriage, parenting, and business. My only family on this side of the world. How do I even begin to make sense of this?"
Klein says she doesn't know "what comes next" and is in "survival mode," confirming the couple will separate.
"All I can do right now is focus on taking care of myself and my children, one day at a time," she added, before sharing some advice: "You're not crazy. Trust your instincts. Trust yourself. If you're not being treated right, get up and leave."
H3 Podcast reacts to Hila Klein claims: 'Shocked, angry'
Shortly after Hila Klein released her statement, crew members of the H3 Podcast shared their own statement, saying they were "disgusted," "shocked, angry, and heartbroken" to learn about the affair, adding that they "stand with Hila."
"As soon as we found out, we all agreed: we would not continue working with Ethan involved or profiting in any way," they told podcast viewers on Instagram. "We don't yet know what that means for the future. There's a lot to work through, and we wish we had more answers for you. We all deserved better: Hila, us, and you."
