It'll be something Beamer's squad attempt on Saturday, Sept. 12 when the Gamecocks welcome Towson to Williams-Brice Stadium for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Gamecocks offense was highly efficient last weekend against Kent State, as South Carolina scored eight straight touchdowns after being forced to punt on its opening drive. Six different players
scored touchdowns for the Gamecocks, marking the 15th time that’s happened since 1995 and the fourth time under Beamer.
Towson is still searching for its first win of the season after dropping back-to-back games against Maine and Navy to open up the 2026 campaign.

Who will become South Carolina's top running back?
Penn State transfer Jabree Coleman had a 60-yard touchdown on his first snap with the program, but Matthew Fuller was the starting running back. Coleman finished with 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on four receptions in South Carolina's season opener against Kent State, while Fuller had 74 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 10 carries.
It'll be interesting to see which one establishes himself as the No. 1 running back going into SEC play, or if they are still on even ground after the first two weeks of the season.
South Carolina can't overlook opponent
South Carolina hasn't lost to an FCS team since The Citadel in 2015. A loss to Towson would certainly not be the outcome that the Gamecocks — or Beamer, with his seat already warm — would want going into SEC play next week against Mississippi State.

South Carolina got some good news this week when edge rusher Dylan Stewart and NC State transfer left tackle Jacarrius Peak practiced in full pads for the first time during practice. Both missed the season opener with a back and knee injury, respectively. So what's their status for Towson? Will they get some time on the field to get work in before conference play?
"I would say they're extremely doubtful for this week, but optimistic what that injury report is going to say next week when we have to release it before our first SEC game," Beamer said this week.

What this game means for South Carolina football?
For South Carolina, this game is less about making a statement and more about avoiding a disastrous one. A loss to an FCS opponent before heading into conference play would be a significant setback and would only accelerate the scrutiny surrounding Beamer's tenure in Columbia.
