After decades in the spotlight, Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris are used to living "for everyone else." So they made sure that their wedding is just for them.
Bush, 44, reveals in an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, "And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress" (out Oct. 27), that she and the two-time World Cup champion, 40, quietly married in summer 2025, according to Vogue.
The "One Tree Hill" star found a black velvet dress with gold flecks in her basement, had her best friend and producing partner, Nia Batts, get ordained online and Harris donned a tuxedo as they were married in an intimate backyard ceremony in upstate New York, the couple told the magazine in an interview published Sept. 30.
With Harris' children Sloane and Ocean,
whom she shares with ex-wife Ali Krieger, in attendance, "the rest of my life began," Bush writes in her book. She adds: "After so many years of having so much of my life dissected and turned into headlines for people who don’t know me, there was something sacred about letting this belong to us first."

"The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them," Harris told Vogue. "It was so fun for them, because it wasn't this pressure-filled day that's too much for young kids.
"I don't want to keep sitting on panels or in interviews and being like, 'My partner,'" Bush said. "You're not my partner, you know? You're my wife. And it feels so amazing to say that."
In her book, Bush acknowledges that this is her second marriage following her divorce from entrepreneur Grant Hughes in August 2023, which ended their yearlong marriage. Harris also went through a divorce from Krieger, her former teammate, the following month. Both women had been separated from their respective partners prior to their divorce proceedings, Bush wrote a personal essay published in Glamour in 2024.
"A friend asked how I could still believe in marriage knowing what I knew about how it could end. It surprised me how quickly and clearly I knew the answer," Bush writes.
"That if in ten years she and I grew into different people and didn’t want to be together, I would rather get divorced all over again — and do it with the love and tenderness I’d always thought was the goal in the first place — than miss my chance at being married to her at all."
