After four seasons at the helm, Brian Tarrant has been removed from his position as head football coach of Woodland Hills (PA) football team just three games into the season, per a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
According to the report, Tarrant had coached in the Wolverines' season-opening 43-15 win over New Castle (PA) but had not been on the sideline since. Woodland Hills is 1-1 over its last two games, losing to Central Catholic (PA) 45-0 and beating North Allegheny (PA) 33-25.
The report also noted that Woodland Hills athletic director Ty Brown sent a letter out to families stating that Tarrant's firing came "due to WPIAL rule violations" and that a meeting would be held Monday night to discuss what was going on.
In the letter, Brown
is noted saying that they will discuss in the meeting what the decision to fire Tarrant means to the program and that they can provide some information but not everything as there are pieces that have to remain confidential.
The specifics of what rules were violated have not been revealed but the Post-Gazette noted that the agenda for this week's WPIAL board of directors meeting includes the board voting to “accept the Woodland Hills School District response to offseason violations and social media posts".
Tarrant was contacted by the Post-Gazette but did not comment and Brown has not responded to any messages as well.
In his four seasons with the program, Tarrant posted a 23-20 record winning two conference titles. Last season, the Wolverines finished the year with an 8-3 record.
While the head coaching situation is figured out, Maurice Walker will serve as the program's interim coach while running the offense and Steve Meyer continues to run the defense.
This week the Wolverines will be on the road for their fourth game of the season as they travel to Fox Chapel (PA) Friday night for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.
