Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power will play for a $1.08 million winner's check on Port Royal's 18th hole Monday morning, with no final round to decide it.
The PGA Tour announced Sunday evening that the Butterfield Bermuda Championship will beconsidered final after 54 holes
because of unfavorable weather and the Monday forecast. The final round never started Sunday. High winds postponed the play for the day. That leaves Smotherman and Power tied at 16 under after three rounds. They will meet in a sudden-death playoff at 8 a.m. ET Monday, weather permitting. It will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
"Due to unfavorable weather forecast for Monday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and the uncertainty surrounding the completion of the entire
final round on Monday, the tournament results will be considered final through 54 holes in accordance with PGA Tour regulations," the PGA Tour said in a statement.
The playoff will be played on the 18th hole only, repeated as needed, with the cup moved after the second and fourth playoff "holes."
Smotherman is looking for his second win this month. He took his first PGA Tour title at the Bank of Utah Championship earlier this month. Power is a past Bermuda champion, winning here in 2022. He came into the week ranked No.103 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, just outside the top 100 who keep full status. A win Monday would move him up.
The PGA Tour last canceled an entire day of play in 2024 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The final round was postponed Sunday and canceled Monday after a storm hit the Monterey Peninsula. Wyndham Clark was named champion after a third-round 60 put him in the lead.
