Super Bowl in name only – at least for now.
The first month of the NFL season is in the history books and let's just say that the 32 teams across the league look far from super. Matthew Stafford
and the Los Angeles Rams look human, which is a far cry from the invincible status they gained in the offseason. Drake Maye and the New England Patriots came crashing back down to reality, only to start finally showing some signs of life recently.Even the defending champion Seattle Seahawks aren't beating up on the opposition like they used to.
Then there are the usual suspects, like the Buffalo Bills. And someone woke up the sleeping giant in Kansas City, reminding everyone that the Chiefs still own this league when Patrick Mahomes is under center.
So
how much have we learned? That's up for debate. At the very least, the "Monday Night Football" between the Rams and Bills might be an appetizer for what could be the big game's matchup in February.
For now though, the odds will tell the story. Here's a look at the updated odds for Super Bowl 61 as we wrap up Week 5:
2027 Super Bowl odds
(All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)
1. Los Angeles Rams (+650)
It'll take more than a rocky start to dislodge the Rams from the top spot. L.A. still has the most talented roster in the league and there is no rule that says the best team has to play like the best team in October. The Rams have work to do, but so does everyone else. Until proven otherwise, they are the team to beat.
2. San Francisco 49ers (+750)
The Niners whooped the rival Rams in Australia to start their march to 5-0. San Fran's latest triumph came in enemy territory, knocking the Seahawks off their perch in Seattle. With the potential MVP frontrunner in Brock Purdy, the 49ers are as dangerous as ever. Just avoid injuries and this team will be in it late into January – and beyond.
3. Baltimore Ravens (+800)
It isn't always pretty, but the Ravens keep finding a way. Style points don't count in the standings and Baltimore is getting plenty of experience in tight games. That can be a good thing, especially for a rookie coach like Jesse Minter. The Ravens have shown an ability to wear down opponents with a physical style. That will win games in the playoffs, as long as Baltimore doesn't beat itself.
4. Buffalo Bills (+850)
Barring a catastrophe, you can pencil the Bills in for a wild-card weekend contest at the new Highmark Stadium. Josh Allen's team has been there and done that, except in the postseason. And that's what it's all about in Buffalo this year. Can the Bills finally break through?
5. Kansas City Chiefs (+900)
And here's the boogeyman. Mahomes gave everyone a reprieve last season, removing his Chiefs from the mix so fans could get a taste of what life would be like without them. The NFL's version of "It's A Wonderful Life," Kansas City is back to prove the football world is better with the Chiefs in it. Now armed with a high-powered rushing attack, the Chiefs are a real threat once again.
6. Seattle Seahawks (+1100)
The Seahawks' season almost ended on opening night, until it didn't. Sam Darnold lived to fight another day, but the division already feels like it's slipping away after five weeks. The margin for error is nonexistent in a loaded NFC West, which could make things difficult for Seattle's chances of a Super Bowl repeat.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (+1200)
Flag on the play. There's a flag down. Penalty marker down. It looks like this one is coming back. The Jags didn't get the snap off in time. Looks like there's movement up front.
Sensing a theme? The Jaguars are a complete team, but can't seem to play a clean game. If they keep the laundry folded and put away, this team can make some noise down the road.
8. Cincinnati Bengals (+1900)
One week, the Bengals look unstoppable. The next, they fumble away the game in the final moments. So what do we make of Cincinnati at this point? Good question. The Bengals have plenty of talent, but something feels missing, or they just haven't kicked it into full gear yet. If things start to click, the jungle will become much scarier.
T-9. New England Patriots (+2000)
"Spooky Season" looked like it would be less about Halloween and more about Maye before the calendar flipped to October. Then the switch flipped and now all is right again in New England. This team has to rebuild some trust before we can consider them contenders again though.
T-9. Minnesota Vikings (+2000)
If defense really wins championships, then congratulations are in order for the Vikings. Brian Flores is single-handedly keeping the opposition up at night this season, concocting a bizarre amount of pressure on the opposing quarterback. If Kyler Murray and the offense ever get rolling, Minnesota could really make some noise.
T-9. Denver Broncos (+2000)
In a way, the Broncos are the AFC version of the Vikings. Relying primarily on defense, Denver just needs the bare minimum from the offense and even that feels like asking for a lot. With a rotating cast of play callers on offense, this team feels far from a true contender.
T-9. Chicago Bears (+2000)
Much like Darnold, Caleb Williams will live to fight another day this season. And given how this Chicago offense operates, there is no reason to believe the Bears couldn't be a major factor in the playoffs. No matter how the defense plays, it will be a tall task for the opposition to keep up with Ben Johnson's offense when things go according to plan.
13. Detroit Lions (+2600)
14. Dallas Cowboys (+3000)
15. Philadelphia Eagles (+4000)
T-16. Houston Texans (+4500)
T-16. Green Bay Packers (+4500)
18. Atlanta Falcons (+6000)
19. Carolina Panthers (+7400)
20. Indianapolis Colts (+8000)
T-21. Pittsburgh Steelers (+9000)
T-21. Las Vegas Raiders (+9000)
23. Washington Commanders (+10000)
T-24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+12500)
T-24. New York Giants (+12500)
26. New Orleans Saints (+15000)
27. Los Angeles Chargers (+20000)
28. Cleveland Browns (+25000)
29. New York Jets (+30000)
30. Arizona Cardinals (+50000)
T-31. Tennessee Titans (+100000)
T-31. Miami Dolphins (+100000)
