Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are mourning the death of their beloved dog, Betty.
The No Doubt singer announced the loss of the couple's dog in an Instagram tribute on Sept. 5, sharing a montage of photos and videos from 18 years of Betty's life with the couple and their family.
"It's with the heaviest hearts that we share our sweet Betty has gone to heaven," Stefani wrote. "She made us all smile for 18 years… we're going to miss her forever."
The 56-year-old singer added that the family would miss Betty forever and thanked the dog for the years of love and happiness she brought into their lives.
Stefani's tribute was set to "Nobody But You,"
her duet with Shelton. The montage featured Betty alongside the couple and Stefani's three sons, Kingston, 20, Zuma, 18, and Apollo, 12, whom she shares with former husband Gavin Rossdale. It also included Betty's cameo in Stefani and Shelton's music video for the song.
Betty was originally Shelton's dog but formed a close bond with Stefani after the singers began their relationship, according to E! News. During a joint interview with CMT in 2020, Shelton joked that Betty had effectively become Stefani's dog because of their attachment to one another. Stefani responded that Betty "loves both of her parents very much."
The dog made another appearance on Stefani's Instagram about shortly before her death was announced. Betty accompanied the singer when she surprised Shelton at one of his concerts, spending time with Stefani in her trailer before the show with a dog bed nearby. The caption of the post said "me + betty decided to pull up on @blackeshelton."
Stefani and Shelton also have a dog named Ginger and a rescue cat named Corn Shelton. The couple took in the cat in 2024 after he arrived at their home severely ill. Stefani said "with a lot of love + nurturing, he became a healthy kitten" in an Instagram post.
Stefani and Shelton met in 2014 while working as coaches on NBC's "The Voice" and began dating the following year. They got engaged in October 2020 and married in July 2021 during an intimate ceremony at Shelton's Oklahoma ranch.
