LONDON – Returning to acting is still a priority for Duchess Meghan.
The former "Suits" star is busy reading "a lot of" scripts, a source close to Meghan tells USA TODAY, with the duchess sifting her way through various storylines as she explores opportunities across the industry.
A new acting job for Meghan was among the reported reasons for the Sussexes shock return to Prince Harry's home country in August, though a role for the mother-of-two is yet to be decided.
Before meeting Harry, Meghan was well known for playing Rachel Zane in legal drama "Suits." The 45-year-old held the role for seven seasons, before her final episodes aired in April 2018, weeks before the pair were married in an elaborate royal ceremony.
It has been almost a decade since
the duchess decided to pause her acting career. The mother-of-two is "being very careful to consider" her next step, the source said.
Speaking to the BBCin 2017, Meghan said that she didn't see her decision to step away from the big screen "as giving anything up" and she expressed hope for "a change" and "new chapter."
In 2020, Meghan and Harry sparked controversy when they announced they were stepping back from their roles as working members of Britain's royal family. They have spent the last six years living in California, Meghan's homes state.
Since returning to Britain with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, Meghan has kept a relatively low profile, though she joined Harry last week for the coupe's first joint engagement in Nottingham.
Despite an ongoing rift within the royal family and six years away from the U.K., the Sussexes received a warm welcome from the city, where Meghan was hugged by well-wishers and given bouquets of flowers as they embarked on a day spent visiting charities close to their hearts.
What happened to Meghan's 'The Gentlemen' casting rumors?
As the Sussexes' move back to Britain was confirmed, various reports claimed that Meghan was in advanced talks to star in the third season of Netflix crime drama "The Gentlemen," which filmed its first two seasons in south-central England.
Tina Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, reported in a Substack essay in August that backlash in the U.K. made it "untenable to go forward," and so Meghan was dropped from the casting.
USA TODAY has reached out to Netflix for comment. Representatives for the duchess declined to comment.
On Oct. 17, Britain's The Telegraph newspaper reported that those close to Meghan believe her name was used to drive publicity for the series and boost viewership.
