Now that Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream’s run in the WNBA Finals is over after the Game 7 loss to the Golden State Valkyries, it’s time to look to 2027.
Reese has completed her third season in the WNBA. The 24-year-old has one year remaining on the rookie deal she originally signed with the Chicago Sky when she was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in 2024, but she could still be in for a major raise thanks to the league’s new collective bargaining agreement.
A three-time All-Star, Reese was traded to the Dream in April 2026 after two seasons with Chicago. The Sky received Atlanta's 2027 and 2028 first-round draft picks, while the Dream also received a 2028 second-round pick swap.
From winning the league's 2026 Defensive Player of the Year
award to claiming multiple rebounding and double-double records, Reese was the perfect driver to bring Atlanta its first Finals game win in franchise history.
Here’s what’s next for Reese:
Angel Reese contract
Reese could cash in after earning All-WNBA honors in 2026.
Her four-year, $324,383 contract with the Sky included an average annual salary of $81,096, per Spotrac. That was prorated to $350,692 base salary in 2026.
Reese is slated to earn $396,282 in 2027 but could get a big raise after she was named to the 2026 All-WNBA second team.
With that accolade, Reese is now eligible to renegotiate her base salary in 2027 due to the Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. Under that provision, the Dream can offer Reese a maximum contract in her fourth year and a supermax extension for the subsequent three seasons.
The maximum contract was $1.19 million in 2026. The cap is expected to rise by as much as 13% next season, and the maximum salary would grow by as much.
Unrivaled
When the third season of the Unrivaled Basketball League founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier starts on Jan. 8, 2027, with a doubleheader at TD Garden in Boston, Reese will be one of the headliners.
She’ll return to the offseason 3-on-3 league for a third year.
Reese dominated the inaugural Unrivaled season in 2025 and she and the Rose BC won it all. She was named the league's first Defensive Player of the Year as she led the league in rebounding with 12.1 to 12.2 rebounds per game (173 total rebounds).
She wasn’t initially included in the 2026 season of Unrivaled. She made the decision in order to rest and recover from injuries (including a back and wrist injury) and a turbulent 2025 WNBA season with the Sky (which included missing 14 games due to injury and a brief team suspension).
Reese ultimately changed her mind and returned midseason when a roster spot opened up in February, re-signing with Rose BC. Reese played in three games and contributed to the team's postseason push, averaging 13 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block.
She’ll reunite with former LSU teammate Flau’Jae Johnson as well as current Dream teammates Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Naz Hillmon when she returns to the offseason league for its third season.
