The state of California is well represented in USA TODAY Sports' Super 15 regional rankings.

The West regional features seven teams from the state, including Trinity League teams such as St. John Bosco, Santa Margarita and Mater Dei.

Coach Jason Negro and the Braves return to the top of the regional rankings. St. John Bosco finished out the 2025 season with a 9-2 record, having their championship aspirations dashed by Orange Lutheran in a 20-19 loss during the postseason.

St. John Bosco will open the season on the road against Bishop Gorman from Nevada. The winner of that game will immediately help decide who is ranked No. 1 for the upcoming week.

Mater Dei managed to get the best of St. John Bosco last season, earning a 36-31 victory in the regular

season finale.

Santa Margarita will have some momentum coming into the 2026 season after beating De La Salle of Concord 47-13 in the CIF State Championship Game last season. It was the first season with former USC quarterback Carson Palmer at the helm of his alma mater.

If the Eagles want to repeat as champions, they will have to overcome a tough schedule that features teams such as St. John Bosco, Orange Lutheran and Mater Dei in league play. Santa Margarita’s non-league schedule features Centennial and Norco.

Centennial is the only California public school on the list, and while they aren’t members of the Trinity League, they’ll continue to compete like one with some of the ranked teams on their non-league schedule.

De La Salle is the lone Northern California representative on the list.
