Texas women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer has hired his former player Victoria Vivians as an assistant coach.

Vivians played point guard for four seasons for Schaefer at Mississippi State, leading it to back-to-back NCAA Championship games in 2017 and 2018. She joins a Texas program coming off consecutive Final Four appearances and led by three-time All-American Madison Booker.

Schaefer has hired several of his former players over the years including daughter, Blair Schaefer. Vivians replaces former Texas assistant Sydney Carter, who played for Schaefer at Texas A&M. Carter left Texas this summer to take an assistant coaching job at Auburn.

Vivians was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. She played six seasons

in the WNBA for the Fever and the Seattle Storm and played professionally in Spain, France, Mexico and Israel. Vivians spent the 2024-25 season at Mississippi State as an assistant coach/director of scouting under head coach Sam Purcell.
