NEW YORK – This is absolutely what dreams are made off.
Hilary Duff belted out hits past and present – and made millennial dreams come true with a surprise Good Charlotte performance – at Madison Square
Garden Aug. 5, her first of two shows at the famed venue.
New York City fans, dressed in their best recreations of every Duff era from "Lizzie McGuire" to "A Cinderella Story," were treated to 2000s hits like "Why Not" and "Come Clean," and new songs including "Mature" and "Roommates" off her latest "Luck… or Something" album.
"It's really been too long," Duff said. "Never in my wildest adult dreams would I think that I'd have a summer that looked like this."

The ever-relatable Duff relished in the "magical moment," sipped an Aperol spritz and threw a subtle dig at her NHL ex Mike Comrie. "I came to a lot of hockey games here, but now I'm headlining MSG baby!" she said.
Duff then revealed her daughter Mae, 5, was in the emergency room the morning of the show.
"My kids are here tonight, I can't believe I get to show them this," Duff said. "We were in the ER this morning getting some stitches for my 5-year-old. She's fine, it's all good, but it's very our-family-coded that I would be playing my first night at MSG and also be in the emergency room getting a kid stitched up. Mae Mae, you're very brave."
After giving a special shoutout to "my LGBTQ+ community," Duff brought out the true queens of the night, drag performers Crystal Envy, Luxx Noir London and Aquaria, to do her viral "With Love" dance break. Duff will return to the Garden Aug. 6 with Jade LeMac ("Constellations") and La Roux ("Bulletproof") opening again.

Hilary Duff, Good Charlotte perform 'The Anthem' at MSG concert
Duff was joined by ex-boyfriend Joel Madden and his brother Benji Madden of rock band Good Charlotte for a high-energy performance of their hit song, "The Anthem."
The singer teased the surprise moment by incorporating an Easter egg into her tour wardrobe for a few songs: a white Good Charlotte band T-shirt. "New York, you know I would never come here and not have a surprise," she said.
Duff said she "brought some of my dearest friends to New York City tonight, talk about some Day 1-ers." She hugged both brothers before launching into the song, dancing around the stage and jumping in to sing the second verse herself as the crowd went wild.
