A 20,000-square-foot bookstore is set to open this week in San Antonio, Texas, as part of Barnes & Noble's growingnational footprint.
The company announced on Sept. 2 that the new store — located at Huebner Oaks — will open Sept. 9 as San Antonio's sixth location.
"We are very pleased to add to our bookstores in the Lone Star State," said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. "The rejuvenation of our business over the last few years has been especially marked in Texas where we have opened – or are about to open – over 20 new bookstores."
Daunt also said that the company is set to open six more bookstores in Texas through the rest of the year, with the Houston area being next. Soon, the total number of stores in Texas will reach 60.
The new stores
come as the company is experiencing a comeback after more than 15 years of declining store numbers
Barnes & Noble now boasts over 720 bookstores, having been below 600 stores as recently as 2023.

New Barnes & Noble Texas location
The company has already opened two other locations in Texas since the start of 2026:
- Prosper, Texas - 1191 Gates Parkway Suite # 300 (The Gates of Prosper shopping center)
- Katy, Texas - 435 S. Fry Road (Greentree Shopping Center)
Little is known about the six additional stores, as USA TODAY has reached out to Barnes & Noble for details on the six planned locations but has not heard back.
However, according to a social media post from the company, one is set to open at Mall del Norte in Laredo, with another coming to Grand Prairie.
