Friday night football is set to get a whole lot better for Dunwoody (GA) High School.
After a year-long fundraising effort that brought in $1.5 million through the "Bring It Home" campaign – along with an unspecified donation of more than $1 million from Dunwoody alum and television host Ryan Seacrest
– the Wildcats will officially have a football stadium of their own beginning with the 2027 football season.Seacrest Stadium, named after the “Wheel of Fortune" and “American Idol” host, will make Dunwoody the first school in Dekalb County to have its own on-campus football stadium.
Seacrest graduated from Dunwoody High School in 1993 and was a member of the Wildcats' football team.
While the school added a new turf field and track in 2020, its 1,000-seat
capacity isn't large enough to host Friday night football games. The money raised through the campaign will be go toward adding 2,000 new seats, new bathrooms, a concession stand and a press box.
The Wildcats currently play their home football games at North Dekalb Stadium, which they share with another local high school, Chamblee. The stadium is roughly four miles south of Dunwoody High School, meaning players, families and students have to make the drive to the stadium.
The school received more than 800 donations through the campaign.
Renovations are expected to begin next month.
