The 2027 Hyundai Tuckson had its world premiere in Long Island City, New York, on Oct. 1 and here's an early first look at Hyundai's global sales leader.
The Tucson's appearance is completely different for the 2027 model year, and there are a few reasons why it offers more value to car buyers shopping in the small family SUV segment. Here's what you need to know about the fifth generation of Hyundai's affordable family hauler and how it has improved.
What's new with the 2027 Hyundai Tucson?
The new Hyundai Tucson is designed around Hyundai's new Art of Steel design philosophy. Its exterior is smoother and more muscular for the 2027 model year.

The new Tucson features Hyundai's H-Edge lighting at the front and rear. The South Korean automaker is introducing multiple new exterior paint
finishes for its latest iteration.
Hyundai's new Tucson compact SUV is 2.3 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider. It has more cabin space thanks to a wheelbase increase of 1.1 inches. The second row gains 1.1 inches of headroom and a bit more legroom in the new model.
Its interior is simplified for the fifth generation. I got into the new Tucson and it felt practical, comfortable, and refined. I've driven nearly 30 new cars for USA TODAY Cars in 2026, and the Tucson's interior felt more like a luxury vehicle's than a mainstream one.
The Hyundai Tucson gains a trim for 2027
One of the biggest upgrades to the 2027 Hyundai Tucson is the addition of an XRT Pro trim. Hyundai's XRT Pro models are typically the brand's most capable models in terms of ground clearance, standard features, and equipment.
2027 Hyundai Tucson XRT Pro features
- Additional ground clearance (8.3 inches)
- All-terrain tires
- Skid plates
- Front recovery hooks
- AI-powered terrain assist technology
Features like additional ground clearance and all-terrain tires make the XRT Pro trim better-equipped to handle off-road obstacles than other Tucson trims. The introduction of the XRT Pro makes the 2027 model year the most capable version of the Tucson for drivers interested in taking the road less traveled. The XRT Pro trim will come with a standard hybrid powertrain.
"Leaders in the segment all have an option that is an off-road model. They'll get more and more capable as we go on" said Olabisi Boyle, SVP of Product and Mobility at Hyundai North America.
Should you get a 2027 Hyundai Tucson?
The Hyundai Tucson is larger and roomier for the 2027 model year. It's also more refined and features an advanced new infotainment system.

Hyundai's XRT Pro trim is a welcome addition since many rivals offer off-road trim models. If you want the largest, most advanced version of the Tucson, the 2027 model year is worth strong consideration. Its redesign makes it a great option in its segment and a fierce competitor to the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Mazda CX-5.
