Arguably the biggest high school football game in Long Island's recent memory is set to be played Saturday afternoon at Hofstra's James M. Shuart Stadium as Massapequa (NY) looks to end Garden City's (NY) 68-game win streak.
However, Mother Nature may lead to the highly anticipated showdown to be played a day or two later.
According to a report from Newsday, Nassau County officials say that while the game is still scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. ET, an incoming nor'easter hitting the region could lead to the game being moved a day or two later.
Both programs come into this matchup boasting two of the longest winning streaks in the country.
Garden City has won a national-best 67 games in a row. The Trojans are 2-0 and entered the season with a 66-game
winning streak. They have not lost a game in the 2020's, with their last loss coming to Lindenhurst on November 30, 2019.
During this streak, the Trojans have won five consecutive Class II Long Island Championships.
Massapequa has been just as dominant in recent seasons. The Chiefs are also 2-0 and enter this matchup riding a 25-game winning streak. Their last loss came in their 2024 season-opener to Oceanside (NY). They've won the last three Class I Long Island state championships.
Garden City enters this week's matchup after beating Calhoun (NY) 24-13 to open the year and last week they dominated MacArthur (NY) 35-7. Massapequa was not tested in either of its first two games beating Port Washington (NY) and Syosset (NY) by a combined scored of 79-19.
