Fort Vancouver High School (WA) has cancelled the remainder of its football season after allegations of inappropriate behavior in the locker room involving members of the team, according to KGW8.
“Last week, we became aware of serious allegations of inappropriate behavior involving members of our varsity football team,” school principal Luis A. Castro-Quintanilla wrote in an email to the school on Oct. 22. “We immediately reported these concerns to law enforcement, began our own internal investigation, and put safety measures in place to protect those who reported the incident.”
Castro-Quintanilla said the school is working with an independent, outside investigator to look deeper into the allegations, although according to Oregon Live, he didn't
specify what the allegations were or how many people were accused.
Fort Vancouver had previously announced it was cancelling the football season on Oct. 20 due to "a number of player injuries and limited availability." Castro-Quintanilla said that those reasons were also a contributing factor, but he omitted the allegations because the school was in the "early stages" of working with the police.
Vancouver Public Schools also addressed the allegations in a statement.
"If this investigation determines that inappropriate behavior occurred, we will take appropriate action, including disciplinary measures as warranted," the statement said. "Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and ensuring that these allegations are investigated thoroughly and fairly."
Fort Vancouver was 0-7 before the season was cancelled.
