Given how much they had their struggles in Bill Belichick's first season, no one was sure what to expect out of North Carolina this season.
So far, the Tar Heels look much improved as they enter their off week at 2-1 with wins over TCU and East Tennessee State and a narrow loss to Clemson.
With the week off, Belichick decided to hit up another football field Friday night as he and his partner Jordon Hudson were seen in the Archbishop Spalding (MD) press box as the Cavaliers hosted Gilman (MD).

Carr-Gloth of WMAR-2 News reported Belichick was there to see several potential prospects that were playing in the game that Archbishop Spalding won 32-0. The game featured a trio of Power Four commits in Spalding four-star receiver Myles McAfee (Maryland), Spalding three-star defensive lineman Brock Frisby (Virginia Tech) and Gilman three-star safety Marcus Turpin (Northwestern).
North Carolina's 2027 class currently has 17 commitments and ranks as the No. 50 overall class and No. 14 class in the ACC for the cycle. It's headlined by Bluffton (SC) four-star receiver Amare Patterson.
Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl winning head coach with the New England Patriots and two-time Super Bowl champion assistant coach with the New York Giants, was hired by the Tarheels ahead of the 2025 season. The team went 4-8 during his first season and failed to make a bowl game for the first time since 2018.
North Carolina returns to the field on October 3 as the Tar Heels host Marcus Freeman and the No. 3 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
