You can't fully blame Ben Shelton for omitting his girlfriend Trinity Rodman in his post-match interview after defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open. After all, it was nearly 4 a.m.
Shelton outlasted
Alcaraz in five sets in an epic quarterfinal, advancing to the last four in a match that didn't end until 3:33 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
In his post-match interview, Shelton noted that his sister and best friend in the crowd may not get much sleep if they had to work early in the morning.
"I'm just hoping my best friend and sister over there don't have to be at work at 6 a.m. in three hours," Shelton said. "It would be huge for their employers to let them have the day off today."
As he was talking, the camera found a miffed Rodman in the stands. While laughing, the Washington Spirit and U.S. women's national team star could be seen asking: "What about me?"

Rodman has been a fixture at Shelton's matches at the US Open thus far. With her home base in nearby Washington D.C., the Spirit forward has been able to shuttle back and forth over the past two weeks.
Shelton and Rodman went public with their relationship in March 2025, instantly becoming one of American sports' power couples.
Shelton, the No. 8 seed at this year's US Open, is chasing his first Grand Slam and will face fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinal on Friday, Sept. 11.
Should Shelton win, Rodman may be forced to skip his final match. The Spirit play the Boston Legacy at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 13. That game in Washington begins just an hour before the men's US Open final in New York, which is set for 2 p.m. ET.
If Shelton's potential final goes as long as Tuesday night's match, however, Rodman could still make it in time for the end.
