Football fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. For the first time since Super Bowl 60, there will be meaningful, NFL games played on a Sunday afternoon.
The first NFL Sunday of the 2026 season will be loaded, as is customary. A total of 13 games will be played throughout the day, with eight coming in the early-afternoon slate, four coming in the late window and the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants closing the day with a "Sunday Night Football" clash.
Per usual, the NFL's Sunday slate will also have its games divided between Fox and CBS. The 12 games will be split directly down the middle, with each network broadcasting six on the first NFL Sunday of the season.
Additionally, each network will get a chance to broadcast one game regionally
in both the early- and late-afternoon windows to celebrate the beginning of the 2026 NFL campaign.
Fox's early window will emphasize the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears games before moving to a near-national broadcast of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Commanders in the later window.
Meanwhile, CBS will prominently feature the Houston Texans vs. Buffalo Bills game in what figures to be the marquee matchup of the early window. Later in the day, the Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers rivalry game will be the network's primary focus.
