I wish I'd bet this when there were still -3.5s hanging around. Seattle's 2-0, Sam Darnold is trending toward a return and Jayden Daniels' dislocated elbow has forced Marcus Mariota back into Washington's lineup. Naturally, the spread has doubled. Whatever. I still like it. The Seahawks have won a franchise-record 12 straight games and are 17-2 straight-up and 14-4-1 ATS away from Seattle under Mike Macdonald. Jaxon Smith-Njigba hasn't slowed down, even with Drew Lock, and now draws a secondary that has helped Washington surrender 60 points in two games. Add a battered Commanders offensive line against Seattle's relentless pressure, and I'm willing to lay the full touchdown. This should get ugly.

Why the Seahawks will cover the spread
The defending champs have picked
up right where they left off, and there's little reason to expect that momentum to stop this week. If Darnold can't play, Drew Lock and Jaxon Smith-Njigba have already developed impressive chemistry, connecting for three touchdowns in Seattle's rout of Arizona. CeeDee Lamb just torched the Commanders' secondary and now Smith-Njigba will get his. The Commanders' defense has struggled badly, ranking 26th in the NFL in EPA per pass, while Seattle's defensive front should have a major advantage against Washington's offensive line. Sam Cosmi is in concussion protocol, adding more uncertainty up front. Marcus Mariota is in for a long afternoon. Seattle keeps rolling.

Why the Commanders will cover the spread
It's hard to know what to truly make of the defending champs so far. They've played a regressing New England team in Week 1 and a rebuilding Cardinals team in Week 2. Yes, they won both games without starting quarterback Sam Darnold, but it sure seems like who is throwing the ball matters less for Seattle right now than who is catching it (Jaxon Smith-Njigba). Limit the wideout's touches and this game looks a lot different. Washington will also be without its starting QB for its home opener, but backup Marcus Mariota has plenty of experience running an NFL offense. If the Commanders can get a quick start against a West Coast team traveling East for a noon kickoff, this spread could keep things interesting all game.
