As the world mourns the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton's family is grieving their Aunt Dolly and Granny Gigi.
The legendary singer's death at 80 was announced on Tuesday, Aug. 25 on social media in a heartfelt
video tribute from her nephew Bryan Seaver.
Seaver, who served as his aunt's head of security for more than two decades after his father retired from the role, said the Grammy-winner had asked him to announce her inevitable death years ago "before I fully absorbed it as a future reality." He shared that he first followed Parton on the road when he was a kid in the early 1980s and got a taste of the doors she opened for her family "to reach the potential we didn't even know was possible."
"My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you," Seaver said in the video. "She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family, whether you liked it or not."

Who were Dolly Parton's parents?
Parton's parents were Avie Lee and Robert Lee Parton, who welcomed the music legend in 1946 in Locust Ridge, Tennessee.
The two married in 1939, when Robert Lee Parton was 17 and Avie Lee was 15, and went on to have 12 children.
Parton often credited her family, particularly her mother, with fostering her love of music from an early age.
"I grew up in a very musical family, all my mother’s people were very musical, so I was always around people playing instruments and singing, and my mom singing the old songs," Parton said in a 2020 interview with People. "So that was just part of my being and I just knew I loved it."
Who are Dolly Parton's siblings?
Parton came from a large family, having 11 siblings through out her life, five of whom have previously died.
The musician was the fourth oldest of six brothers and six sisters, including a set of twins. Her older siblings were Willadeene, David and Coy, while her younger siblings were Bobby (Robert Jr.), Stella, Cassie, Randy, Larry, Floyd and twin sisters Freida and Rachel.
Her brother Larry, the ninth child from her parents, died in 1955 four days after he was born. His death was depicted in the singer's 2015 TV movie, "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors."
Parton has had to say goodbye to many of her siblings through the years, most recently her big brother Coy who died in July at age 82. Floyd Parton died in 2018 at age 61, Randy Parton died in 2021 at age 67 and David Parton died in 2024 at age 82.
Who was Dolly Parton's husband?
The country music pioneer was married to businessman Carl Dean for nearly 60 years until his death in March 2025.
Since marrying in 1966, the two shared a private love story dating back to when they first crossed paths in the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville in 1964, when 21-year-old Dean waved down 18-year-old Parton when she first moved to the city.
Despite his wife being one of the most formative musicians in a generation, Dean largely avoided the spotlight after an a 1966 awards show turned him off from the world of fame, Parton explained in a 1994 autobiography "Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business." Instead, he focused his real estate dealings and tended to the couple's Nashville ranch.
"He never wanted to be part of any of that, never did interviews," Parton told Knox News, part of the USA TODAY Network, in 2024. "[He] would just run like a scalded dog. If somebody said, ‘Are you Carl Dean? Can you answer a few questions?' 'No, I don't answer questions.'"
When Dean died at 82 in 2025, Parton said in a statement that "Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years."
Did Dolly Parton have children?
Coming from a family of 12 kids, Parton did not welcome children of her own.
In a 2017 interview with "Today," she reflected on not becoming a mother and said she never regretted how her life unfolded.
"God has a plan for everything," she told the outlet. "I think it probably was his plan for me not to have kids so everybody's kids could be mine. And they are now."
Children remained a part of her life. She was an aunt to more than a dozen nieces and nephews, including her late niece Tever Louise Parton, who died in 2017 at age 36. Tevie was the daughter of Dolly's brother Randy and sister-in-law Deb.
Parton also became a mother figure to children around the world through her Imagination Library, which has given hundreds of millions of free books to children since its launch in 1995. She also released the children's album "I Believe in You" in 2017.
